Question 1: (5 Marks)

Let us consider a departmental store in which operations are limited and manageable and final decisions are centrally taken, this departmental store needs a computer based information system, you have to analyze and list at least 5 information requirements of this departmental store.


The department store’s twin characteristics of a wide range of merchandise and a high level of customer service compel it to react quickly to a constantly changing and a more sophisticated customer base. The customer also looks for service – credit, delivery, and after sales. Originally computers were used in department stores only for payroll and purchase ledger. Now the objective is to run the entire trading operation round an integrated computer system. It is primarily in the area of conveying timely and accurate information to executives responsible for taking decisions, that computers are making the greatest impact on the department store trade.

Question 2: (2.5+2.5 Marks)

Consider a TYRE manufacturing company that is aimed to implement a Stock control system. You have to suggest that which of following type of system will perfectly suits with given scenario:

>  Open Loop System
> Closed Loop System

Justify your answer with suitable reasons.


Open Loop System

Open loop control is by far the more simple of the two types of control theory. In open loop control, there is some sort of input signal (digital or analog), which then passes through amplifiers to produce the proper output, and is then passed out of the system. Open loop controls have no feedback and require the input to return to zero before the output will return to zero.

Closed Loop System:

In closed loop control, the system is self adjusting. Data does not flow one way, it may pass back from a specific amplifier (such as velocity or position) to the start of the control system, telling it to adjust itself accordingly. Many physical systems are closed loop control at the lowest level since the data about velocity and current position modify the output (also position) at consistent rate.
