On a company’s board recommendations, transformation of a petroleum company is underway owing to the desire of the holding group owning it whose agenda involves pursuing rapid growth strategy. After a deep and at length strategic and analytical discussion with the senior executive team, following three strategies in alignment with the overall growth strategy were agreed upon mutually: The CEO insists on following aggressive growth through joint ventures to capture more market share The marketing vice president is in favor of more efficient deployment of intellectual capital to deliver innovative and improved quality product to customers The major focus of the manufacturing vice president is greater standardization of the processes to eliminate duplication of efforts and to keep production costs at minimum in geographically dispersed operating sites But to implement these strategies, three pronged organizational effectiveness approach must emerge employing three different effectiveness techniques. Your task is to identify the approach the management will use to evaluate organizational effectiveness in each of the above cases. Correct identification carries three marks, one mark for each effectiveness technique. Being students in management, you must have realized by now that following the above mentioned strategies simultaneously involves tradeoffs between the competing interests of different departments’ executives. You are advised to discuss how the competing interests of all the executives can be aligned. Give logical reasoning for your stance. 2 marks
